FAQs

FAQs

Q. What is the shelf life
A: We currently have a 1-year 'best by' date which we plan on extending as our shelf life testing is exceeding our expectations. The bars are sealed in airtight foil packaging. Due to the packaging, we've had bars that are over 2 years old that are still doing great. We like to use the 'best by' date as an excuse to head out with the dogs for an adventure. We feed the old bars and re-stock. Our dogs love this arrangement!!

Q. Can this be the only food my dog eats?
A: Yup! TurboPUP bars have been formulated to exceed AAFCO standards for all stages of life for dogs with added vitamins, minerals and omega-3s. Packed with 28 grams of protein, TurboPUP bars are the ideal meal on the go!

Q. My dog is already high-energy. Will this give my dog higher energy?
A: TurboPUP bars are crafted to sustain a dog's energy and support healthy eating. They are not an "energy shot" for your dog.

Q: How much should I feed my dog?

We made the bars for active dogs, so the short answer is on an active day about 250 cal for every ten pounds. Non-active is about 200 cal for every ten pounds.

The long answer is:

According to the Dr. Gail Renehan, DVM of Veterinary Product Consultants, LLC, a rough formula to calculate maintenance energy requirements is :

Dogs weight in kg X 30 +70 = recommended kcal/day.

For a working dog, that requirement is probably 1.2 to 1.5 times that.  So, a 20# dog needs 342 calories to just sit around, high activity raises that to 514 calories per day.  A working 60# dog would need about 1332 calories.

Since all dogs are so different you can also calculate the calories your dog currently eats on a daily basis (look on the bag for calories (kcals) per cup and multiply it by the number of cups per day). Each TurboPUP bar has 250 calories so divide the amount you got for the current consumption by 250 and you should have a good idea of how many bars per day your dog would need.

Q. Why don’t I just bring dog food with me?
A: Dog food is great at home, but when convenience, quality and weight are priorities, TurboPUP bars pack up small and are easy to carry. Leave the bowl at home!

Q. Won't you still have to pack something that the dog can eat out-of/off-of so that it doesn't crumble into the dirt as they crunch this bar?
A: TurboPUP bars hold up better than biscuits due to their low moisture content. Our bars are scored and easy to break up.

Q: Isn’t there too much cholesterol in egg yolk? Is that bad for my dog?
A: Yes and No. Egg yolks have a high amount of cholesterol but, unlike humans, dogs do not have problems with animal fats clogging their arteries. Also cholesterol is a precursor to many hormones that dogs make in their bodies.

Q:  What is Whey Protein Isolate?
A: TurboPUP bars are baked with 93% pure Whey Protein Isolate. Whey protein is highly digestible with a complete profile of amino acids. Using isolate was important to us because lactose, which can be problematic for dog's sensitive stomachs, is filtered out when its made.

Q: Why should I feed Whey Protein to my dog?
A: Dogs, like humans can not make all the amino acids that they need for repairing muscle and tissue. Whey protein is a complete protein containing all the essential amino acids needed for this process.

Q: Why is there so much fat?
A: Unlike humans, who convert carbohydrates and sugars directly into energy, studies show that dogs metabolize fat for energy during exercise.

Q: What do you mean by 'Natural Flavors'?
A: Natural flavors refer to our proprietary blend of natural aromatics to enhance the flavor of the bars for dogs.

Q: What is the shelf life of TurboPUP bars? How long are they good after being opened?
A: The bars have a one year "best by" shelf life when retained in its sealed package and stored in cool and dry conditions.

Q: My dog has a sensitive stomach, how will this effect my dog's digestion?
A: We use the highest quality, simple, human grade ingredients that make the adjustment easy for dogs. TurboPUP conducted an independent study where nine dogs with sensitive stomachs across age span and breed, ate the bars for three days without an adjustment period. Not only were the dogs enthusiastic about the bars, but so were the owners who reported no adverse reactions on their dog's sensitive stomachs.

**It is important for us to mention that if you have any concerns, it is best to consult your veterinarian**

Q: Is my dog going to feel full eating TurboPUP bars?
A: Yes. However, if your dog is like our dog Odin, he would eat a thousand bars if he could. Otherwise, the bars can be broken up into smaller pieces, and fed to the dog during the day so the dog feels like it is eating all day. TurboPUP bars provide all the nutrition needed for active dogs, but we do not use bulky ingredients so TurboPUP bars stay lightweight.

Q: How are TurboPUP bars for dogs with allergies?
A: TurboPUP bars are grain-free and made with simple wholesome ingredients, but it is always best to consult the ingredient list if you know your dog is sensitive to certain foods.

Q: What about all these pet food recalls? Will I have to worry about that with TurboPUP bars?
A: The vast amount of recalls have been a result of low quality, imported ingredients.  We're proud that all of our ingredients are made in America! Every TurboPUP bar is made with love and human grade, premium ingredients.
